BLACK SWAN

Black Swan is absolute insane, disturbing, beautiful, madness and I loved every single minute of it. If you're not into strange thought provoking films then see it for nothing, but Natalie Portman's performance. I literally wanted to reach into the screen and hand her an Oscar. She does complete justice to the film as does Mila Kunis and, really, the entire cast. The movie is a great workout for the brain and eventually you won't be able to separate dreams from reality (in a good way). Black Swan is a well deserved front runner for the Academy Awards and will leave you thinking well after the movie is over.

TRON: LEGACY

Fabulous. Tron has left my mind bamboozled. I have dreams about the grid and have found myself buying countless merchandise from the film. Like Avatar, it doesn't possess incredible plot, but it sure as hell is visually pleasing. You won't be able to keep your eyes off the screen. Plus, Jeff Bridges is a riot. He gives off that lovable comic relief I believe every film should have. And me oh my, the soundtrack is so much fun! This movie was totally up Daft Punk's alley so their scores were PERFECT (not to mention their awesome little cameo as DJs in the movie). This movie was definitely special so I have to give it two ratings...

My Movie Famine Is No More!

I was in the bit of a "movie famine," where I hadn't seen too many blog worthy films, but boy has that changed. The last three movies I have seen were WONDERFUL and definitely worth your time. Here's a little fancy scale I've concocted to help you follow my movie reviews:

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to visit an open house for FIDM (the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) and meet one of my favorite designers, Project Runway's own, Nick Verreos. He gave an amazing presentation that conisisted greatly of the use of the words "fabulous," "fierce," and "sister." He may be a flaming homosexual, but that doesn't stop my undying love for him. God, I can't even get over how friendly he was to the crowd. Everyone got a little bit of one on one time (including awesome photos taken) with him and recieved an autograph personally written for each audience member. What can I say? Nick Verreos is one fabulous and fierce sister!

This is a Barbie outfit he designed on season 2 of Project Runway (He won the challenge, obviously). If you are a female and not in love with this design....you're insane. Sorry.

Snape, Snape, Severus Snape...

My last exciting night out was without a doubt the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1. Or, for the sake of time, Hp7. In my opinion, if you're nerdy enough to attend a Harry Potter premiere, please dress up. You can't just go half way with the art of being a nerd. The full package is required. Luckily, my friends understood that concept. We waited in line for seven hours, but time flew by quickly while we were playing HP trivia and practicing spells. (Yes, I'm that awesome). When the theater opened it was basically a violent wizard free for all to get the best seats. I'm a bit of a pacifist, so I was not one of those maniacs, but let me tell you: people were being less than friendly smacking their wands around. The movie itself was excellent (although, as a huge Potter fan, I'm required to say that), but it was really the whole experience that made the night so epic.

Terribly sorry for my absence from the blogging community (I know my one follower must be devastated). Lately my days have consisted of procrastination, massive piles of homework, and whatever little time I have left I like to dedicate to my best friend, Sleep. I would, however, like to get back to sharing my random whozits and whatzits with you guys. Starting...now!

Song De La Semain

It's a bit late for the ol' "song of the week," but it can be a fun weekend listen-to instead. So without further ado I present.... Hitchin a Ride by Green Day! Green Day is easily my favorite band (besides the ever wonderful Beatles), so you will no doubt be seeing a lot of them. This song is one of my favorites from their older albums and is, for lack of better words, extremely catchy. It gives me that feeling of "I just wanna jump around a rock out," so I hope is does the same for you.

Going Green: Concert Review
It's hard to express my excitement through little black words on a computer, but Green Day has put on thee best shows I have ever seen in my life. Even my mother, who has been to many incredible rock concerts in her day, puts the band at the top of her list. I've only had the pleasure to see them live twice (this summer and last summer on their 21st Century Breakdown tour), but what I saw was absolutely mind blowing. This all sounds so cheesey, but if you have been to a Green Day show you will understand. Billie Joe Armstrong has the most energy and stage presence a rock star could possibly possess. You can tell the band lives for the fans and loves audience participation. Not mention, they sound flawless live. I don't care what kind of music you like or what you expect from a concert: Green Day will devour your expections.

All Hallow's Eve: A Night of Ghouls, Fright, and Movies

My Halloween weekend was somewhat of a bore, but I did manage to see a plethora of excellent and not-so-excellent horror films. I managed to watch Rob Zombie's Halloween, the original Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) , The Strangers, The Ruins, and tid bits of cheesey made for TV movies, in a matter of two days. These were all mind numbing and entertaining, but the only movie I saw this weekend that was truly worth my while was Paranormal Activity 2.

As a prequel to the first Paranormal Activity, the creepiness of the film focuses on the homemade effect of the camera work. I know some people to find it nauseating, but in this case it entirely added to the eeriness. I'm not gonna lie, I am 100% aware of the visual effects and scripted writing, but there's still a part of me that believes it's actual footage. Or maybe I'm just paranoid because the supposed haunting takes place in my hometown of San Diego. Either way, the film has some gnarly scares that make the best of us jump out of our seats. Even the simple scares like kitcken cabinets opening or doors slamming on their own were enough to make me jumpy when I got home. The film is extremely slowing in the beginning (which might bother those seeking non-stop action), but I liked getting to know the characters and the feeling of intense tension building up to the terrifying climax. If you're looking for a chilling tale with a happy ending, this movie is not for you, but fear loving individuals like myself: you're in for an awesome time.

Goodbye Life. You were fun while you lasted.

Since I have literally been grounded for life due to frivolous, teenage mistakes, I will have a lot more time to spend with this wonderous blog. Thought I would begin my eternity of virtual boredom with this week's Song of Choice, which just so happens to be United States of Eurasia by one of my favorite bands: Muse.

I have always loved Muse and after recently seeing them in concert with my musical companion, Natalie, my love has only grown stronger. The band is absolutely pristine live. Their sound is one hundred percent authentic which is how I feel all musicians should be. The song above is my favorite off their latest album The Resistance and mixes classic, soothing music, with modern rock. I hope you enjoy its glory as well, but come on, who doesn't love British rock stars?

Horror Movie Madness!

As a die hard movie fan I am willing to watch just about anything, but nothing sparks my fancy like a good old fashioned scary movie. Since I'm still on my Halloween kick I will be watching and reviewing horror films throughout October for you guys. Paranormal Activity 2, Saw 3D (which I am tragically addicted to), and Don't be Afraid of the Dark are on my agenda for the month. In the meantime here are some of my favorite movies for when I'm in the mood to be simply terrified:

• The Exorcist (1973)- I had to put it on here. Any true horror fanatic will understand.
• The Omen (2006)- I loved the remake. Thought the cinematography as well as the scares were extremely well executed.
• The 6th Sense (1999)- Classic. Eery. Delightful acting.
• Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)- Yet another classic starring my beloved Johnny Depp. Scares are a little dated, but never fail to entertain me. 1, 2, Freddy's coming for you...
• The Ring (2002)- Demented little girl with mounds of black hair crawling out of a well. Enough said.
• The Orphanage (El Orfanato) (2007)- Foreign horror films are always the scariest, especially this one. Some scenes had me jumping out of my seat.
• Paranormal Activity (2007)- This was a debatable "love it or hate it" film. I loved it. Nothing ridiculously scary, but the simplest of things are sometimes the best. I also greatly appreciated the movie from a film makers point of view.
• Let the Right One In (2008)/ Let me In (2010)- I thought both the Swedish and American versions were highly entertaining. Let me In (American) features more scares, but Let the Right One In stayed closer to the original plotline of the book. One may be more favorable depending on what mood you're in, but I would easily reccommend either of them.

















This is Halloween

San Diego's dark, rainy, Schizophrenic, weather had inspired me to write about none other than Halloween. I have a deep love for wild costumes and horror films, so naturally it would be one of my favorite holidays. Unfortunately, it always saddens me to watch the diginity of almost every girl at my school flicker away in just one night. "Oh my god, remember when we dressed up as Dallas cowgirls and got wasted at so-and-so's house?" The thought that this is probably the favorite Halloween memory of half the teenage girl population, sickens me. I mean, these "sexy" costumes are getting a little ridiculous. Next thing you know a "sexy warthog" will be on Party City's hot costume list. I respect everyone's right to do what they want, but I hope to bring the fun, creative, spirit back to Halloween this year.

Us teenagers must be important, otherwise why have so many musicians written songs about us? Baba O'reilly, We Are Golden, Smells like Teen Spirit, I Was a Teenage Anarchist, Teenage Dream, and how can we forget Teenagers itself? I thought since we're always being talked about, why not actually have something to say in return. Although I guaruntee no one is reading this right now, let me have my moment of pride because everyone has to start somewhere. I may not be your cliched, rebellious teenager, but I speak my mind and have a reason behind every thought.
